Everything You Need To Know About Audio Engineers (Part 1)

A music engineer is a technical specialist who controls the setup and operation of equipment that records, edits, mixes and reproduces sound. Music engineers—who may also go by the titles “audio, sound or recording engineers”—may work most often in recording studios, at television networks or at concert venues.

Being an audio engineer involves focusing on a lot of different aspects. They include:

  • Minimizing unwanted sounds
  • Regulating volume levels and sound quality
  • Setting up ambient sound microphones
  • Collaborating with producers, artists and so on
  • Working on live productions
  • Communicating with clients to meet their expectations
  • Equipment maintenance and repairs

Audio engineers don’t necessarily work solely on audio projects. They can also work on projects that include video, although their focus is purely on the sound elements of the project.

Audio engineers may not be members of the music industry that are on everybody’s radar, but they should be! They play an important role in music.
