APPLE MUSIC UPDATES CONTRIBUTOR ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Apple music has announced that complete details will soon become a standard requirement for metadata content delivery system. This update seeks to improve the quality and clarity of content metadata on Apple music platform for all creators, the announcement came at the back of series of calls for a standardized metadata system that highlights the contributions and credits due every composer or creator. The policy from the streaming Giant seeks to take effect by the end of the year as specific dates for the implementation to begin are yet to be announced.

Apple music surfaces credits in three categories:

Performing artists (solo and band members): All musicians and band members that perform on a track must be listed with their instrumental roles. Eg: Rap, Lead Vocals, 12-string acoustic Guitar, Moog, Synth bass, Drum Machine.

Composition & Lyrics: Lyrics, composer, Arranger,

Production & Engineering: Producer, Recording Engineer, Mixing Engineer, Mastering.

Including explicit content: If a song contains bad words, the explicit content element should be selected in the track information.

Submitting original form: Artist names, track titles, and album titles should be submitted in the original form intended by the artist.

Avoiding non-standard capitalization: Titles and artist names should not be in all caps, all lowercase, or random capitalization.

To maintain the accuracy of Apple Music’s robust catalog, we encourage all deliveries to include the appropriate metadata. By crediting all contributors in your metadata, you highlight the group effort of the creative process and make your music more discoverable.

Be sure to review the following guidelines for metadata submission before your next delivery.
