Spotlight on Addi Self- The Self-Made Voice of Ghana’s Streets

Jafaro Mohammed, popularly known as Addi Self is one of Ghana’s most promising artists. His discography is a tasteful blend of Dancehall, Reggae and Afrobeats, showcasing an artistry that vibrates with streetwise energy.

His stage name, short for “Addicted to My Self,” points to a unique creative blueprint forged in unshakable independence, fierce self-belief, and relentless commitment to staying true to his roots.

Influenced by global icons like Anthony B and grounded in the stories of Accra’s everyday life, his music pulses with authenticity. Heavy basslines, sharp lyricism, and unfiltered passion have become his signature.

Professionally, he started out in the underground scene, striding through Accra’s musical terrain before catching fire as part of Shatta Movement’s Militants, alongside Shatta Wale, Captan, and Joint 77. After releasing street anthems like “Taking Over” and “Forgetti,” he caught the public eye, making his claim to street credibility.

When the call to go solo grew louder, he put it on record with the “Self Nation President.” Then he sealed it with his debut album, The Journey (Zongo to BBC), in 2021. The 15-track project featuring collaborations with Mugeez (R2Bees) and Kelvynboy marked his official arrival as a voice for Ghana’s next generation.

With accolades such as Artist of the Year at the Ghana Youth Awards, and Overall Artist of the Year at the 2021 Face of Ghana Youth Awards, he has cemented his place as one of the most influential artists of his class.

Through his lyrics, lifestyle, and leadership, he’s become a beacon for self-belief and community empowerment, especially among Ghana’s Zongo youth.

In July 2025, he returned with “Money Answer”, a high-voltage dancehall anthem that promises to be one of the year’s biggest tracks. His recent playlist wins with the fresh track prove that Addi Self’s message still moves the masses.

You can stream “Money Answer” on all major platforms, including Spotify, Boomplay, Audiomack and Apple Music.
